Hey teacher friend! 👋 If you’ve ever handed preschoolers paint, you know how magical it is to watch them discover new colors for the first time. That moment when red and yellow suddenly turn into orange? Pure classroom magic! ✨
If you teach preschool, you know that a little paint on the hands (and the tables, and maybe even the walls) just means learning is happening! 😆 That’s why I created this low-mess color mixing activity—so your little learners can get hands-on with colors while still keeping your classroom somewhat under control. 😉
And the best part? 🎉 I’m sharing it with you for FREE! You’ll find the link below, so stick around to see how this simple, hands-on activity will bring color mixing fun to your classroom!
Why You (and Your Kiddos!) Will LOVE This Activity ❤️
I designed this activity with busy teachers in mind. It’s engaging, fun, and requires almost zero prep. Perfect for preschool, Pre-K, and Kindergarten classrooms!
✔ No-Fuss Setup – Just print, grab some paint, and you’re all set! 🖌️
✔ Hands-On & Engaging – Kids use their fingers to mix colors, making it a sensory experience.
✔ Science Meets Art – They’ll predict, test, and discover how primary colors combine to make secondary colors.
✔ Perfect for Any Setting – Works for small group time, centers, or whole-group instruction.
So, let's do it! Here’s how to easily set it up in your classroom...

How to Use This Color Mixing Freebie 🌈
Setting up this activity is as easy as 1-2-3!
What You’ll Need:
Printed activity sheets (grab it below ⬇️)
Red, yellow, and blue paint
A few wet paper towels or wipes for easy cleanup
Step-by-Step Instructions:
1️⃣ Dot, dot, dot! Squeeze small dots of red, yellow, and blue paint onto the designated spots.
2️⃣ Fill those bubbles! Have kids use their fingers (or a paintbrush) to schmear the primary colors around in each of the bubbles. I like to do one set at a time as a whole group. This way, we can make predictions together before moving on to mixing! A quick wipe with a wet paper towel is all they need—no hand washing necessary! Then, we move on to the next set.
3️⃣ Let the magic happen! Now, have them mix the colors together to create new colors! Encourage them to compare their predictions to what actually happens.
💡 Teacher Tip: Prepping wet paper towels ahead of time makes moving through each set of primary colors quicker and easier—you’ll be glad you did! 😉

👀 Observation Skills – Watching colors blend together builds scientific thinking.🎉
Creative Expression – Every student’s page will turn out unique, which makes it even more fun!
